not a good gaming card Oct 13, 2008 if you plan on running on anything bigger than a 17" monitor, this card is not for you. Runs very hot, and not worth the money to buy 2 and sli when you could spend a little extra for the 8800gts which is a 10x better card.
Very quiet Oct 01, 2008 This is only $5 more than the 8500gt with a fansink and it is much quieter.
I didn't realize how much noise was coming from my video card fan until I installed this card.

Great Card for the Money Sep 15, 2008 I've thrown everything in Valve's Orange Box at this, including HL2: Lost Coast with High Dynamic Range lighting, and it worked perfectly.
In addition to gaming, it renders text and movies great, and displays colors and shadows far more accurately than my onboard Intel chipset. Couldn't ask for more.

XFX 8500GT 512MB SILENT (but deadly) Sep 07, 2008 Great card, especially for the price! I didn't expect the 3D game performance to be this good. Image quality via DVI on my old Eizo 18" 1280x1024 LCD is great. Everything looks pleasing to the eye and causes no strain.
XP Pro SP3 rig (forceware 175.xx) paired with ASUS M2N-MX SE, AMD Athlon 64 LE-1600 2.2GHz 45W CPU and 1GB Mushkin DDR2 800 in an In Win IW-Z589T.AQ350BL Black Steel MicroATX Case with (very good) 350W Power Supply this little video card idles 40C, is always silent, and plays HL2 games on high/2xAA/1280x1024 avg 40fps. Image quality is very good, game is playable, and it's all good.
GPU temp gets around 70C under heavy load like Furmark+OCCT/Prime95 (CPU max 40C stock cooling).
The whole rig cost me $350 for the hardware... a great backup computer to my major ($$$) gaming PC...
Also, winamp runs Milkdrop visualizer in desktop and fullscreen modes without a glitch... looks awesome

very good! May 13, 2008 Very fast video card and the kids are loving the speed of the games overall now :D
I especially like the fanless option. Those things get soo lound and break too often. This is the way they should design video cards.
